Can you imagine a house made out of books? A house in which even the table, the chairs and the bed seem to have been made of pages to turn and bound covers? You might say that this is a dream turned into reality by Livio De Marchi!

With a sleek and minimalist approach to adaptable living, here’s a sophisticated house that likes to “travel”. Located in a rural site in Suffolk, England, and dubbed the Sliding House, it has mobile walls and a roof that glides along rails to cover and uncover the static parts of the 28 meters long dwelling. Work of London-based architects from dRMM, the ingenious design alters views, lighting conditions and the sense of enclosure inside. Though it’s not the home of our dreams, it’s an amazing exercise of design with a stunning outcome. Our only concern is about the cost. Looks expensive, doesn’t it?

Atkin's Architecture Group recently won the first prize award for an international design competition with this stunning entry. Set in a spectacular water filled quarry in Songjiang, China, the 400 bed resort hotel is uniquely constructed within the natural elements of the quarry. Underwater public areas and guest rooms add to the uniqueness, but the resort also boasts cafes, restaurants and sporting facilities.
The lowest level runs with the aquatic theme by housing a luxurious swimming pool and an extreme sports center for activities such as rock climbing and bungee jumping which will be cantilevered over the quarry and accessed by special lifts from the water. With a stunning visual presentation as shown here, it's no wonder this project took home the first prize. This is a fine example of an ultra modern facility co-existing amongst its natural environment.

Author comments: Hot dog carts and used book vendors are a staple of any New York City sidewalk. A team of student work-study employees at Columbia’s Butler Library drew on this urban inspiration to transform a vintage wooden bookcart into Broadway’s hottest book stand. Having wheeled the refurbished bookcart from the quiet library stacks to the bustling corner of Broadway and 113th Street, Columbia undergraduate Evan Roth poses as a book vendor to the amusement of even the most jaded New Yorkers. And then it’s back to the library stacks to serve up fresh books!

Here's a fabulous, true mission style library table, ala Frank Lloyd Wright! It measures 29x46 with a rectangular top, mission edge, side book storage, angled pedestal mission base with corbels and 21" drawer (a keyboard pullout is an option). Quarter sawn oak only.
Amish Tables
The Sky Factory creates illusions of blue skies, landscapes and even deep space and makes them available for installation in homes, businesses or to anyone wanting to create a sense of well being in their space. Installation includes options for ceilings as well as walls, and there are quite a bit of scenes to choose from. Studies have shown that the sight of blue skies and nature create a calming effect of deep relaxation and inner peace, which is why they're so popular in hospitals, rehabilitation centers and cancer facilities, but just as effective in residential spaces as well.
In one of the photos in particular below, a man creates an amazing room in honor of his favorite movie, Star Wars. Created for his children as a getaway and a distraction from television, this large basement is now a dreamlike family room which gives a feeling of being in a spacecraft. Pretty cool if you ask me.
